About In Mulieribus

In Mulieribus (the Latin phrase meaning “amongst women”) is a female vocal ensemble specializing in musical works written primarily before 1750 and is committed to the promotion and enrichment of community. Composed of seven members, this talented ensemble accomplishes its goal through live, historically informed, professional performances; through sound recording projects; and through relationships and donations made to local non-profit organizations that support women in need.

About La Velata

La Velata (The Woman with the Veil) comes to the Portland Art Museum from the Medici Collection of the Palatine Gallery, Palazzo Pitti, Florence, Italy. Created in 1514, La Velata is one of Raphael’s masterpieces. The painting depicts a woman wearing a veil who is thought to be Margherita Luti, a baker’s daughter believed to be Raphael’s longtime mistress.
