The Development of Woman in the Art of Gaston Lachaise

Sun, 9 Jun, 2013 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Paula R. Hornbostel
Curator and Trustee, Lachaise Foundation

“I love you with all the fires that have burned.” “You, the Goddess I seek to express in allmy work, have made me a God.” “You ask if I love you, I live for you.” These are just a few words from the artist’s passionate letters to his muse, model, and wife, Isabel Dutaud Nagle, during their lifelong love affair. Their relationship inspired some of the 20th century’s most memorable tributes to “Woman.” Learnmore about the Beaux-Arts-trained American Modernist sculptor Gaston Lachaise—his life in America, his letters to Isabel, and his important contributions to American Modernism.

Free for members; lecture ticket includes Museum admission. Space may be limited. Advance tickets are recommended and available online or on site.
