Artist Talks and Happy Hour - Arvie Smith

Thu, 12 Dec, 2013 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Join artists from a range of disciplines in the galleries for lively conversations about works of art. The talks are followed by a complimentary social hour with libations and snacks in Museum Grounds.

Arvie Smith’s paintings transform the history of oppression and stereotypes in the American experience into lyrical, two-dimensional works. His psychological images reveal deep empathy for the dispossessed and the marginalized, shining a light on their profound will to survive and to resist powerful injustices. He is Associate Professor of Painting at Pacific Northwest College of Art, where he has taught since the mid-1980s. He has had numerous solo and group exhibitions in Portland, Maryland, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, New York, New Orleans, and Los Angeles.

$5 members; $15 non-members; $12 seniors. Space is limited. Advance tickets are encouraged; available online or on site.
