DEANA DARTT, PH.D., CURATOR OF NATIVE AMERICAN ART
Everybody Reads is a community project organized by Multnomah County Library in which thousands of Portlanders collectively read the work of a single author highlighting contemporary social issues and promoting community conversations. This year, people across our region will read selected works by author, poet, and screenwriter Sherman Alexie who was named one of The New Yorker’s 20 top writers of the 21st century. In this lively gallery talk, Dartt will explore Alexie’s work and the changing visual landscape of Native American artistic expression using Plateau historic and contemporary works and highlighting responses to reservation life.
