Preparing Your Visit

Scheduling a School Group Tour
  • Due to the large volume of requests, school group tours must be requested online.
  • Docent-guided tours are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis on Tuesday through Friday mornings. Self-guided tours can be scheduled in the afternoons and on weekends to accommodate college groups or groups with special needs.
  • Tours may be scheduled for groups of 5 or more students of all ages.
  • Allow seven to 10 business days for acknowledgment of your tour request. A signed booking agreement secures the reservation and will be e-mailed with your tour confirmation. Please provide a signature and return via e-mail.
  • Complimentary tickets are provided for each required chaperone.

OPTION 1: Docent-guided Tours (60 minutes)

Docents use an interactive, inquiry-based approach to engage students at many levels of learning and interest. Designed to help students become familiar with the Museum setting, these hour-long visits include an in-depth study of between five and 10 artworks.

  • Docent-guided tours are scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 9:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
  • One chaperone for every 10 students is required.
OPTION 2: Self-guided Tours (approx. 60 minutes)

Self-guided visits are perfect for those who wish to move through the galleries at their own pace.

  • Self-guided tours are scheduled Tuesday through Friday between 12 p.m. and closing.
  • One chaperone for every six students is required.
  • To involve students, we recommend that all self-guided tours participate in a teacher-directed gallery activity during their visit. Please bring clip boards or small sketch pads and pencils only; no pens are allowed in the Museum.
College Tours

Docent-guided and self-guided tours may be scheduled for college groups at a discounted rate of $2.50† per student for groups of 10 or more. College professors also have the option to submit a class list, which will allow students to visit independently and receive the group rate. Class lists must be sent to the Education Department in advance.
