OPENING NIGHT FILM - CORALINE
UNITED STATES | DIRECTED BY HENRY SELICK
Showtime: 2/5, 7:30pm SH
Coraline tells the story of a young girl (voiced by Dakota Fanning) who unlocks a mysterious door in her new home and enters a parallel reality. On the surface, this other world eerily mimics her own life, though it is much more fantastical. It is inhabited by such off-kilter characters as the morbidly funny Miss Forcible and Miss Spink (Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders), as well as a counterfeit mother (Teri Hatcher) who attempts to keep her. Ultimately, Coraline must count on her resourcefulness, determination and bravery to get back home. Coraline, produced over the last three years by animators, artisans and puppet fabricators at Portland’s LAIKA, is the first stop-motion feature shot in stereoscopic 3-D. (100 mins.)
Filmography: The Nightmare Before Christmas (93), James and the Giant Peach (96), Monkey Bone (01).
LAIKA, Focus Features and Hollywood Video invite you to celebrate the world premiere of Coraline and the opening of the Festival. Join us after the screening for a party with the filmmakers and special guests.

CLOSING NIGHT FILM - DEAN SPANLEY
NEW ZEALAND | DIRECTED BY TOA FRAZER
SHOWTIME: 2/21, 8:15pm WH
In buttoned-down Edwardian England, Henslowe Fisk (Jeremy Northam) maintains a weary relationship with his misanthropic, curmudgeonly old dad (Peter O’Toole). Featuring a career--capping performance by Peter O’Toole and a magical mélange of fine wine, canines and outlandish behavior, Dean Spanley provides a wild, tantalizing excursion into the strange world(s) of Edwardian England.
