The Portland Art Museum’s Next Horizon - A Conversation with the Portland Art Museum’s Brian Ferriso

Mon, 8 Apr, 2013 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM

The Museum’s director talks art, bikes, gardens, and expansions.

Brian Ferriso had some big shoes and an empty pocket to fill when he became executive director of the Portland Art Museum in 2006. For 12 years, his predecessors, John and Lucy Buchanan, had held a string of blockbuster exhibitions, raised millions in donations, and built two additions. But all was not well: the Museum carried a crippling $20 million debt. And then came the recession. Six years later, the Museum is on more certain financial footing, is expanding its collection, and has retuned its ambitions to educate, not just draw, the masses.

Join us for a look at Ferriso’s first phase at the Museum—and at what he hopes to be the next—in conversation with Portland Monthly editor in chief Randy Gragg. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
