Spring Teen Workshop

Museums as Social Spaces

A museum's job is to collect, preserve, and display great art on its walls. But what goes on inside? In the spaces between objects? Between people? Sometimes great things get made with the museum, in the museum. Can a conversation be a form of art? What is a social sculpture?

This FREE teen workshop led by artist Grace Hwang will explore the field of participatory and socially engaged art practice and facilitate the design of museum interventions that will culminate with Shine A Light, an evening event in partnership with PSU's Art and Social Practice MFA program. The class will meet Thursday’s from 4:30-6:30 p.m. in the Kinney Classroom of the Portland Art Museum. The workshop is open to all applicants ages 13-18.

Drawing Portfolio Workshop for Teens

Are you a young artist between the ages of 13-18? Do you keep a sketchbook? Do you love to draw? Then you may be interested in applying for the free Drawing Portfolio Workshop taught by artist Carson Ellis.

The workshop will be held at the Portland Art Museum on Thursdays from 4-6 p.m. beginning October 11 and ending December 13. Teens who are selected to participate will have the opportunity to draw from the Museum's collections, experiment with new materials, and strengthen skills in their chosen medium, creating new portfolio-quality pieces. The class will collectively maintain an art blog and organize a group show at the end of the workshop.
