Life in Venice 1500-1797 (SOLD OUT)
John E. Buchanan, Jr. Memorial Lecture

Sun, 16 Feb, 2014 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Life in Venice as Context for its Art and Music: 1500-1797

Hilliard T. Goldfarb, Ph.D.
Associate Chief Curator and Curator of Old Masters, Montreal Museum of Fine Arts

In this opening lecture celebrating Venice: The Golden Age of Art and Music, Dr. Goldfarb will discuss the development of this first major exhibition that looks at the interface of art and music in Venice. He will explore how, in a period of gradual economic decline, Venice profoundly altered the history of these two art forms, and he will ask why this phenomenon could have happened only in the Venetian Republic. Dr. Goldfarb will also present the thematic content of the exhibition itself, discussing its artistic and musical highlights, animated with historical and personal anecdotes.

This lecture sponsored by the John E. Buchanan, Jr. Exhibition Endowment.

This lecture is SOLD OUT, but you can visit the Venice Multimedia page to watch videos of the lectures you missed.
