Dawson Carr, Ph.D. The Janet and Richard Geary Curator of European Art
While most of Canaletto’s paintings show Venice bustling with everyday life, he also painted the celebrations accompanying the great feast days of the Republic, which drew tourists from across Europe. This lecture will explore the invaluable insight the paintings offer of the splendor and dignity of Venetian ceremonies.
Members free; nonmembers $20, seniors and students $17. Advance tickets recommended.
