Three Fragments of a Lost Tale: A Film by John Frame

This twelve and a half minute film, "Three Fragments of a Lost Tale," is Part I of a much larger project. Utilizing wooden sculptural characters created by award-winning American sculptor John Frame, "Three Fragments ..." explores a world unlike any we have seen before. While the film is not overtly narrative, it embodies a fresh approach to the art of storytelling. The characters and the strange world they inhabit interact with each other in ways that are capable of evoking deeply emotional responses in the viewer. In this complex project, Frame has created the characters, built the sets, photographed them, animated the scenes, and scored the film himself with the help of only a few immediate family members and very close friends. The vignettes collected here are the culmination of five years of very focused work by Frame and his tiny crew and will soon be followed by Part II of the larger story entitled, "The Tale of the Crippled Boy."

Also included on this disc is the eight minute documentary about Frame by young filmmaker Johnny Coffeen. In this beautifully shot film, we are given a very concise look at the artist's world as he shares a few essential thoughts about his creative process and aspirations.
